Craig MacKenzie acted for an accountant charged with multiple frauds and making employer-related investments. This was a high-profile case that was widely reported in the press. It was the first case of its kind prosecuted by The Pensions Regulator (TPR).
Craig MacKenzie led the multi-disciplinary regulatory team representing the Defendant in this high-profile case. The defendant was a long-standing employee at RAC and was responsible for sending 4576 RAC customers data to a co-defendant who used the data to source work for his claims management company. This data was obtained remotely , without consent, in return for payment. Following negotiations with the Information Commissioners Office who prosecuted the case, guilty pleas were entered before Manchester Crown Court. The Defendant avoided prison and was sentenced by way of a Suspended Sentence Order.
Representing a vulnerable client for attempted murder, Craig MacKenzie persuades the prosecution to accept a plea to ABH. This was despite him making admissions to attempted murder during his police station interviews. Mr MacKenzie argued that he was unfit to be interviewed at the time and should have had an appropriate adult present.
Following an eight-week trial at Manchester Crown Court, Craig's client was found not guilty of Conspiracy to supply class A drugs. It had been alleged that he was a leading figure of an Organised Crime Group supplying drugs on a commercial scale across Greater Manchester.

The 25 year old customer unfortunately died and the Local Authority decided to prosecute following an investigation which identified various breaches of health and safety legislation.
